Students’ Learning Journal

Students’ Journal is the place where our students reflect on their daily experience at Summer App Space (SAS) program and share it with you. We only use Pseudonym names and share the information, our students and parents approved for publicly publishing. Therefore, you cannot see all the students here. In addition, students had the option to choose to publish or not to publish for each day entry. There might be gaps in students’ journals because not all the students wanted to publish everyday entries.

Teflon AnomalyMassively Parallel Donut – I have always been intrigued by every field of science and have struggled in the task of selecting a particular type or field to go into. I believe that learning to program will be incredibly beneficial to me because it will open several doors that I may not have encountered or even have considered because of the absence of my ability to program. When I was younger I wanted to go into aerospace engineering because my late grandfather worked for NASA and JPL and attended Caltech as well. I remember reading his obituary and learning that he helped develop some of the first satellites and rovers and that when he retired he began a nonprofit group that improved biomedical inventions of his time. He inspired me in my decision to pursue these fields and continues to inspire me to this day. Because I want my work to help others, I am now leaning towards biomedical engineering, but am still undecided. I know that this program will help me in my endeavors by teaching me the invaluable skill of programming and by providing some clarity towards my future career choice as I listen to guest speakers and their experiences in each field.

Teflon AnomalyFluorescent Turtle – I really like dogs and coffee. In school, I enjoy chemistry, math, Speech and Debate, and participating in my local division of Girls Who Code. Outside, I like to compose music, take pictures, and try different foods with my sister. I hope to major in computer science and go into software or electrical engineering as an adult.
